United For Puerto Rico / Unidos Por Puerto Rico - Memphis Donation Drive Hurricane Maria Relief

Puerto Rico desperately needs our help.

But first I want to say a few things.

There have been so many disasters and tragedies over the last several weeks, and I do not discount any of the pain and suffering that so many U.S. citizens have endured. Many of these events touched me personally (I have an uncle in the Lower Keys, my sister was visiting Las Vegas when the shooting occurred...) and I want you to help whoever you feel called to assist in these sad and trying times. We can't all help everyone. I am speaking up today, though, because the absolute devastation of Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria has really hit home for me, my Puerto Rican husband, and my Puerto Rican in-laws. And it has a direct relationship to my blog and cookbook.

My cookbook features numerous traditional Puerto Rican recipes passed down in my mother-in-law's family for generations. She has been so stressed and sad since Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico. She and her husband both have family on the island and we still have not yet heard from everyone to know if they are safe. These are some of the most loving and genuine people I've ever met, who treated me like I was true family when we visited the island a few years ago.

IF YOU LIVE IN MEMPHIS and want to make a physical goods donation, please join us at the Cooper Young Community Farmers Market THIS SATURDAY from 8am-1pm. I have a booth with my husband of Mobius Theory and will have copies of my cookbook available + samples of a dish from the book. Let us know you are coming on the Facebook event page

We will be collecting donations of any items from the list below.

This project is coordinated via Unidos por Puerto Rico (http://unidosporpuertorico.com/en) and will go directly to this initiative. IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN MEMPHIS or prefer to donate money instead, you can make a monetary donation directly to this website.

If you are unable to attend on Saturday, also note that volunteers will be at the GPAC on Sunday, October 8th, from 8am to 5pm collecting donations.
